No previous experience in the climate space? Don't worry, we are happy to help you grow into a climate expert at Root! 🌎 What we do We build software that helps companies along the food system get to Net Zero. ~31% of global GHG emissions originate from food-related activities. For the first time in history, climate performance has become an overall business performance indicator. Enterprises are mandated by regulatory bodies to disclose their climate performance, which leads to increasing pressure from investors, competitors, retailers, and consumers to prevent and reduce their CO2e emissions. Over the next 10 years, companies have set ambitious reduction targets that need to be met. Enterprise software and new business processes can help. We raised >€10m in funding in the first 2 years of our existence, we launched our enterprise product, signed and onboarded some of the largest F&B players in Europe, and put together what we believe is the best-suited early stage tech team in Europe. Will you be the next to join us? 🚀 🔭 What this freelance role looks like This is not a full- or part-time position. We're looking for a freelancer to support our Slovenian-speaking customers on a project basis. After an initial onboarding phase, you will take on assignments as needed, primarily running virtual trainings and supporting customers through key phases of our platform. Expect low and irregular hours — this role suits someone who has other engagements and is looking for flexible, project-based work in the sustainability space. Your assignments will typically include: Running virtual trainings with Slovenian-speaking customers, guiding them through the Root Platform (onboarding, data collection workflows, reporting features) Supporting customer projects during active data collection phases — answering questions, ensuring data quality, and driving completion Acting as a trusted point of contact for Slovenian-speaking users (primarily agricultural stakeholders), helping them navigate the platform and understand its value Flagging risks and opportunities to the internal Customer Success team, including churn signals, product feedback, and user engagement patterns 🚀 What you bring along Native-level Slovenian (written and spoken) — this is a hard requirement Professional proficiency in English , our internal working language. German skills beneficial. Experience in Customer Success, Account Management, or Customer-Facing Operations , ideally in a B2B SaaS environment Comfortable with virtual training delivery (webinars, workshops, screen-sharing sessions) Self-organized, reliable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision Bonus: familiarity with sustainability, carbon accounting, or agricultural supply chains or experience with data collection platforms or survey/assessment tools You don't feel like you fulfill all the criteria? We get it: confidence can sometimes hold us back from applying for a job. But guess what?! There is no such thing as a 'perfect' candidate. The only thing you need to ensure along the recruiting process and beyond is that the problem that we are solving with Root is one you cannot wait to get out of bed for on Monday morning! 🤗 🦾 How we support you You will collaborate as part of a cross-disciplinary team that brings together sales and account managers, product experts and customer success specialists 🎢 Contracting Process Our ambition is to offer you an end-to-end experience that is fast and uncomplicated - we aim to keep the end-to-end process to 10 working days . We send you prep material for each step and maximise transparency at every step. Root Global is an equal opportunity employer, which means we do not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion, marital status, age, national origin, ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition, pregnancy, genetic information, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. You will design, test and implement practical and compliant agentic AI solutions on top of foundation models document understanding, classification support, retrieval over our own procedures and tariff material, and agents that carry multi-step operational work end to end. You are not being asked to train models from scratch. You are being asked to make models that already exist behave reliably enough that operations staff trust them with customs declarations, where being wrong has consequences. Working closely with Operations, Transformation, IT and Group teams, you will turn business needs into scalable solutions. Key Responsibilities • Develop and customise AI solutions for the market, from prototype through to production ownership. • Be curious and prepared to self-learn to use generative-AI to build agents that make a difference to our business • Identify automation and decision-support opportunities across customs and business processes, and size them honestly before building. • Design solutions using generative AI and large language models — retrieval, tool calling, structured extraction from customs documentation, and agentic workflows where they genuinely fit. • Own the evaluation. Define how we know a solution is working before it ships, and how we know a change has not made it worse. This is treated as core to the role, not an afterthought. • Manage pilots and implementation, and set the criteria for killing a pilot as clearly as the criteria for scaling it. • Monitor performance, inference cost, latency and business impact. • Collaborate with local teams, Group functions and technology partners. • Contribute to privacy, security and AI governance compliance, working with Group Legal and IT Security. You should understand how the EU AI Act applies to what you build, and be able to produce the documentation that goes with it. . Requirements Essential • 1-2 years AI engineering, software engineering or intelligent automation, including LLM or AI features that real users depended on. • Strong Python and SQL, with production code ownership. Not familiarity. • Demonstrable experience integrating large language models into production systems — prompt and context design, retrieval-augmented generation, structured output, and handling failure gracefully. • Practical experience with at least one major cloud AI platform (Azure AI, AWS Bedrock, or Google Vertex). • Solid full stack backend engineering fundamentals — APIs, data pipelines, testing, CI/CD. Most of this job is • Strong communication skills — you will spend real time with operations staff who are experts in customs and not in AI. • Professional fluency in English. Desirable • Evaluation engineering: building eval harnesses and regression suites for non-deterministic systems, LLM-as-judge approaches, and human-in-the-loop review design. This is the single strongest signal we look for and we will weight it heavily. • Context engineering: designing and version-controlling what a model sees — retrieval strategy, memory, tool descriptions, and policy layers that constrain what an agent is allowed to do. • Agent orchestration frameworks and standards (LangGraph, MCP, Temporal or equivalent), and experience with long-running or multi-step agent workflows. • Observability and cost control for inference at volume. What success looks like in your first year • By month three: You understand our customs processes well enough to challenge what we ask for, and you have shipped one small, useful thing. • By month six: At least one AI solution is live, measured against a baseline, and demonstrably better than what it replaced. • By month twelve: There is a working evaluation process others can use, a ranked pipeline of next opportunities, and at least two colleagues outside IT operating what you have built without you in the room. What We Offer • A key role in shaping AI capabilities. • The opportunity to build solutions with direct business impact, on real operational volume rather than pilots that never leave the lab. • An international and fast-evolving environment, with peers in other Customs Support Group markets working on the same problems. • Professional growth opportunities, including a budget for conferences, certification and model/compute costs for your own experiments. • Permanent role. Hybrid working. How to apply Send us your CV and a short note a few paragraphs is plenty describing one system you have put in front of real users. We are most interested in what went wrong with it and what you did about that. Find Jobs in France on Arbeitnow

About Payflows At Payflows, we build software that helps large companies manage and automate their payment workflows. It’s not the flashiest part of a business, but it’s one of the most critical: invoices, approvals, payments, and controls. When these things slow down, the whole company feels it. But our ambition goes further than just building a better workflow tool. We believe the future of finance operations is not faster clicking: it’s no clicking at all 🫳 🎤 Finance teams shouldn’t spend their days moving data from one screen to another. Software should do the operational work, and humans should focus on reviewing, approving, and making the decisions that matter. That’s the direction we’re building toward: an agent-driven finance platform , where intelligent agents handle the repetitive tasks, and users stay in control. We started in 2022 with a small team and a rough first version of the product. Three years later, we’re working with major companies across France, the UK, and the US while choosing to keep our team small and human-sized. We moved fast, shipped a lot, and not everything was built in a perfect way. But it helped us learn quickly, sign real customers, and prove that the problem we’re solving truly matters. In 2024, investors trusted us with a $25M Series A. That gives us the chance to keep growing while also strengthening our foundations and building the system that will power this agent-driven future. Today, we’re about 35 people from many different countries, and we’re looking for a few amazing humans to join the next chapter. 🤗 🚀 What you’ll actually do You’ll help build a product that real finance teams rely on every day. For us, engineering is not just about clean code, it’s about reliability, clarity, and trust, especially when money and automation are involved. In a typical week, you might: Design and implement new services for a product feature. Refactor an early service to make it more robust. Investigate a performance or production issue. Work with product and frontend to shape a new feature. Review code and help teammates improve. Build backend tools that our AI agents use to perform real finance operations. Design safe, deterministic workflows where agents propose actions and humans review them. Your time will be split between building new features and improving what already exists . Both matter. You won’t just build endpoints. You’ll help shape the execution layer that our agents rely on: the APIs, data models, and workflows that let them act safely in production. You’ll work closely with product, frontend, and customer-facing teams. We expect engineers to take ownership of parts of the system and help make them more reliable over time. 💻 Our current tech reality Our stack evolves based on our challenges, but we care more about good design than trendy tools 🙏 Python is our core language. It helps us move fast, keep the code readable, and fits naturally with our AI-driven approach. A growing part of the system is built around agents that use our backend as a set of reliable, deterministic tools. Core language: Python Backend: FastAPI + Pydantic Data: PostgreSQL Infra: AWS, serverless when it makes sense Performance: some Rust for critical paths Architecture: multi-service backend, simple enough to reason about Some parts of the system are clean and well-tested. Others were built quickly and need love. That’s the phase we’re in. Over the next year, we’ll focus on: Turning core workflows into reliable tools for our agents Simplifying services Improving tests and observability Making performance more predictable Cleaning up early code We know we’re not perfect, but we care a lot about improving step by step. ✨ Who’s going to thrive with us You’ll probably feel comfortable here if: You like building products people actually use. You are autonomous and take ownership of what you ship. You take initiative and lead by example. You’re curious and enjoy figuring things out. You’re pragmatic about trade-offs. You communicate with kindness and clarity. This role is a great fit if you’re excited by the idea of: Building systems that are used by AI agents, not just humans. Designing reliable, safe automation in production. Working on a product that is still early and evolving quickly. You don’t need to know everything about AI. But you should be curious about it and excited to work in a system where agents are part of the core product 🤖 🧩 What you’ll get from this role Real ownership over parts of the system. Direct impact on customers and product decisions. A small, human team where your work is visible and meaningful 🤝 A mix of feature work, system design, and technical improvements. Exposure to real scaling and production challenges. The chance to help build an agent-driven product from the inside. We offer: Competitive salary and equity. Flexible remote setup (we prefer people to come into Paris or London office twice per week. At a minimum we’d ask you to be at an office 3 days per month, onboard in Paris for your first few weeks, and work CEST timezone). A high-autonomy environment where you have real ownership and space to make an impact. Plenty of room to grow, take responsibility, and shape parts of the product. A culture based on trust, ownership, and clear communication. This isn’t a huge corporate environment. In exchange, you get autonomy, responsibility, and the chance to shape a product that’s still early in its story—and help build what finance operations will look like in the next decade 🚀 Find more English Speaking Jobs in France on Arbeitnow
